UAES and Baowu Magnesium Visit the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys for Discussions

27 February 2025

On February 26, 2025, Xiaolu Guo (Deputy General Manager, United Automotive Electronic Systems Co., Ltd., UAES) and Weijun Zhi (Assistant to the General Manager, Baowu Magnesium), together with their delegation, visited the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg) at Chongqing University(CQU) to discuss opportunities for future collaborations.

The meeting was attended by Academician Fusheng Pan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Xianhua Chen, Dean, of CQU’s College of Materials Science and Engineering, Dingfei Zhang, Director of CCMg, Jia Hu, Deputy Director of CCMg, along with faculty members Jun Tan and Guoqiang You.

During the discussion, Xiaolu Guo of UAES provided an overview of to the company’s operations and outlined its needs for magnesium-alloy applications, expressing strong interest in closer cooperation with CCMg. Weijun Zhi, Assistant to the General Manager at Baowu Magnesium, shared insights into the current state  of the magnesium-alloy industry and highlighted its prior collaborations with CQU, emphasizing the company’s commitment to deepening technical exchanges and jointly driving industry development.

Academician Fusheng Pan underscored that magnesium alloys are entering a phase of accelerated industrial growth. He noted that applying magnesium alloys in the automotive sector not only enables further lightweighting to support energy conservation and emissions reduction, but also leverages their advantages in damping/vibration resistance and electromagnetic shielding to realize optimized design that integrates both structural and functional performance. He added that CCMg will continue to capitalize on its technological strengths, working alongside industry partners to assume greater responsibilities and make more significant contributions to national strategic goals.

Following the meeting, the three parties engaged in in-depth exchanges on potential cooperationmodels, as well as the application prospects and technical pathways of magnesium alloys in the automotive field.
