Academician Fusheng Pan delivers the keynote presentation at the 19th China Science and Technology Journal Development Forum

On July 9th, as a key event of the 26th China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Annual Meeting – Beijing Academic Week, the 19th China Science and Technology Journal Development Forum was held in Beijing. Attendees included Junke He, Party Secretary of the CAST, Executive Vice Chairman in charge of daily work, and First Secretary of the Secretariat; Qinghai Meng, Full-time Vice Chairman of CAST and Secretary of the Secretariat; Jianfeng Chen, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Executive Editor-in-Chief of Engineering, and Academician of the CAE; and Deli Sun, Director-General of the Publishing Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. The forum was chaired by Xuedong Chen, Vice Chairman of CAST, Chair of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mechanical Engineering, and Academician of the CAE.



The forum’s theme was “Platform Support and Integrated Development: Enabling More First-Class Journals to Stand Out.” More than 200 participants attended, including heads of national academic societies, research institutes, and universities that publish journals, leaders of journal publishing houses, editors-in-chief, editorial board members and editors of leading domestic journals, as well as representatives of journal-publishing service providers and technology companies.

During the keynote session, Fusheng Pan, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Magnesium and Alloys and Academician of the CAE; Xun Wang, Associate Editor of Nano Research and Professor, Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University; Huaibin Xing, Director of the Center for Promoting New-Quality Productive Forces, Ministry of Science and Technology; Xiqiao Feng, Associate Editor of the Acta Mechanica Sinica and Vice President of The Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics; and Bin Peng, Editor-in-Chief of China Science Publishing & Media Ltd., delivered themed reports on building flagship indigenous journals leveraging disciplinary strengths, bringing first-class journals back to domestic platforms, advancing a strong nation in science and technology through journals, building nationwide society-run journal clusters, and upgrading the sci-tech journal publishing industry, respectively, and exchanged views with participants on how to accelerate the enhancement of China’s sci-tech journals’ influence and strengthen independent publishing capacity, so that more high-quality papers are published in Chinese journals and more high-level journals are published on domestic platforms.

The forum event also featured four thematic sub-forums: “Building a First-Class Sci-Tech Journal Publishing Group,” “Reconstructing Publishing Paradigms for Sci-Tech Journals in the AI Environment,” “Strategies for the High-Quality Development of Sci-Tech Journals,” and “Exploring Diversified Development of Journal Clusters.” Experts from more than 20 relevant institutions, including the Chinese Medical Journal Publishing House Co., Ltd., Youke Publishing Co., Ltd., the Chinese Laser Press, the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, the China Editology Society of Science Periodicals, the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Society of China Universities Journals, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered specialized presentations.
